Our 2026 seedling sale features shrubs and small trees with fruit for people and wildlife. These plants will also help clean our water and air, prevent soil erosion, sequester carbon, and add beauty to your landscape.

The Berry Bonanza package features two each of:

Canadian Serviceberry
(Amelanchier canadensis)

15 - 30 ft. tall. Full sun to partial shade. Moist soils.
Serviceberry seedlings will be tied with white ribbon.

Shrub or sometimes a small tree with masses of white flowers in early spring on upright stems that complement attractive silver-gray bark. Red to black fruit in summer. Brilliant fall color ranges from red to orange to yellow. Can form thickets. Good for birds, pollinators. Special value to native bees. Commonly hybridizes with Downy Serviceberry. To maintain a neater appearance, prune back any root suckers that are not desired.

American Elderberry
(Sambucus canadensis)

6 - 12 ft. tall. Partial shade. Moist soils.
Elderberry seedlings will be tied with purple ribbon.

Shrub with clusters of small white flowers June - July. Dark purple berrylike fruit August - September, use cooked in pies, jams. Grows best in partial shade and moist soils, but very tolerant. Can form thickets. Great food source for birds. Special value to native bees, which nest in the dead hollow stems. Nectar source for many butterflies. Good for erosion control. Short lived but spreads by root suckers. If a neater appearance is desired, prune back unwanted suckers.

A full, non-refundable payment must accompany your order. Orders will close if supplies run out. You will be emailed a confirmation receipt. The receipt will include the address of the pick-up site near Falls Church, VA. Pick-up days are Friday March 27th (9am to 4pm) and Saturday March 28th (9am to noon), 2026.

When submitting your order, do not click the Back button, do not Refresh the page and do not click Submit more than once!

Important: the seedlings need to get into the ground soon after pick-up. If you cannot do this, temporarily put them in a shady place and keep the roots moist.

Rain Barrel

Rain Barrel, Pre-assembled 2026

$80.00
The 2026 seedling sale has closed. Thank you for your support!

$80

As part of a regional initiative, NVSWCD offers low-cost rain barrels. Unlike our Build-Your-Own Rain Barrel workshops, these barrels are already assembled.

Pick-up Friday March 27th (9am to 4pm) or Saturday March 28th (9am to noon), 2026
Falls Church, VA

Save money and water and help protect our waterbodies. Pre-assembled barrels are around 42 inches high and hold approximately 50 gallons. Only two rain barrels will fit in most vehicles.

A full, non-refundable payment must accompany your order. Orders will close if supplies run out. You will be emailed a confirmation receipt, which will include the address of the pick-up site near Falls Church, VA. Pick-up days are Friday March 27th (9am to 4pm) or Saturday March 28th (9am to noon), 2026.

Place the rain barrel under your downspout to capture runoff from your roof. By installing a rain barrel at home you will:

    • Provide your indoor and outdoor plants with water they will love! Unlike treated water, which is "softened" with dissolved mineral, rain water is naturally soft.

    • Save money on your municipal water bill. And save water.

    • Protect the Chesapeake Bay. Water stored in your rain barrel won't rush off into streams and ponds. As you use the stored rain water in your garden, it will absorb slowly into the ground. This replenishes groundwater supplies. Rain barrels help reduce erosion near our waterbodies. Some of this erosion harms the Bay.

NVSWCD also offers lower cost Build-Your-Own Rain Barrel workshops. For more information, please visit
Northern Virginia Rain Barrel Workshops
or email
rainbarrel@fairfaxcounty.gov .

*Only two rain barrels will fit in most vehicles.
